Eesti keel kuulub soome-ugri keelte hulka ja selle areng algas mitu tuhat aastat tagasi Põhja-Euroopas. Vanemad kihelkonnakeeled arenesid hiljem keskaegseks eesti keeleks, mis omandas ladina kirja 13. sajandil ristiusustamise käigus. Keskaegne kirjakeel arenes edasi, mõjutades eelkõige Saksamaa ja Rootsi keelt, kuid säilitas oma eripära. 19. sajandil rahvusliku ärkamise ajal standardiseeriti eesti keel ja hakkas laialdaselt levima hariduses ja kirjanduses. Tänapäeval on eesti keel ametlik keel Eestis, seda kasutatakse igapäevases suhtluses, hariduses, meedias ja administratsioonis ning see kannab rikkalikku kultuurilist ja ajaloolist pärandit.
English is a West Germanic language that originated in medieval England, evolving from the Anglo-Frisian dialects brought by Germanic invaders in the 5th century. Old English developed into Middle English following the Norman Conquest in 1066, incorporating a significant number of French loanwords. Early Modern English emerged in the 15th century, influenced by the Renaissance, the invention of the printing press, and standardization of spelling and grammar. Over time, English spread globally through colonization, trade, and cultural influence, becoming the lingua franca of international communication, science, and business. Today, English is spoken by hundreds of millions as a first language and by billions as a second language, with diverse dialects and rich literary, scientific, and cultural traditions.
