Is teanga Ghaeilge í Gaeilge atá mar chuid den teaghlach Ceilteach. Bhí sí á labhairt go forleathan ar fud na hÉireann ó na meánaoiseanna, agus tá traidisiún liteartha saibhir aici le seanléaráidí, filíocht agus amhráin traidisiúnta. Le linn na hImpireacht Shasana, laghdaíodh úsáid na Gaeilge, ach d’fhág sí a lorg i litríocht agus i gcultúr na hÉireann. Le linn an 19ú agus 20ú haois, chuir gluaiseachtaí náisiúnta agus oideachas Gaeilge chun cinn mar shár-thréimhse athbheochana teanga. Sa lá atá inniu ann, úsáidtear an Ghaeilge in oideachas, meáin, dlí agus rialtas, agus tá sí lárnach i bhféiniúlacht agus i dtraidisiún cultúrtha na hÉireann.
English is a West Germanic language that originated in medieval England, evolving from the Anglo-Frisian dialects brought by Germanic invaders in the 5th century. Old English developed into Middle English following the Norman Conquest in 1066, incorporating a significant number of French loanwords. Early Modern English emerged in the 15th century, influenced by the Renaissance, the invention of the printing press, and standardization of spelling and grammar. Over time, English spread globally through colonization, trade, and cultural influence, becoming the lingua franca of international communication, science, and business. Today, English is spoken by hundreds of millions as a first language and by billions as a second language, with diverse dialects and rich literary, scientific, and cultural traditions.
