Open DocReader Sidebar
In your Google Doc, click the Add-ons (puzzle piece) icon and select DocReader. Click Open App in the sidebar to access the transcription features.
Click Transcribe All
In the DocReader sidebar, click the Transcribe All button. This option converts your entire document from beginning to end into audio, perfect for long articles, reports, or documents you want to listen to in full.
Configure Voice Settings
Set up your audio preferences: select the language (75+ options available), choose your preferred voice type (different genders and accents), and adjust settings like speed or pitch. These choices determine how the entire document will sound.
Generate Audio
Click Generate to start processing. DocReader will convert your entire document text into natural-sounding speech. Depending on document length, this may take a few moments. You'll see progress updates in the sidebar as the transcription processes.
Download or Listen
Once generation is complete, you can listen to the audio directly from the sidebar or download it as an audio file. Downloaded files can be saved to your device for offline listening, sharing with others, or use in presentations and other projects.
Tips and Best Practices
- Use Transcribe All for complete documents, study materials, or long-form content you want to consume while multitasking.
- Ensure your document is well-formatted with proper punctuation for better audio pacing and natural pauses.
- For very long documents, consider breaking them into chapters or sections for easier management.
Common Pitfalls to Avoid
- Don't expect instant results with very long documents - processing time increases with document length.
- Avoid transcribing documents with excessive tables or special formatting - they may not convert well to audio.
- Remember to review your document for typos first - errors will be read aloud exactly as written.
